First Date
Safety First – the First Date
Whether you met online or offline, eventually you’re likely to want to meet in person with some of your suitors.
If you’ve talked for a considerable length of time on the phone, you may feel that you’re starting to get to know the person. Still, it’s a good idea for you to consider safety when you meet for the first time. If the other person is truly interested in getting to know you, they’ll certainly understand your reasons for putting safety first, and they won’t have any objections.
For starters, your best bet is to meet during the day in a public place, perhaps at a coffee shop. Not only is this a safe place to meet, it’s also a low-pressure date. If it turns out you two aren’t clicking, you can finish your coffee and end the date. If on the other hand things are going really well, you can suggest that you extend the date by getting a bite to eat or doing something else.
If you haven’t been out in the dating scene for a while and feel a little nervous, you can always drive to the meeting point with a friend and arrange for him or her to pick you back up in about 90 minutes or so. This gives you a gracious way to end the date (when you mention your friend is picking you up for a prior engagement), and of course there’s the safety factor.
If the date is going well you can call your friend to extend the pick-up time. Or you can graciously end the date as arranged and perhaps make another date. Indeed, sometimes it’s better to end it early which makes the anticipation for the next date all the bigger.
