Meeting At Clubs

You may be tempted to join clubs you aren’t interested in just to meet people. Don’t do this. Sure, if you’re curious about gardening even though you’re not a fanatic yourself, feel free to join the club and see what it’s all about.

But don’t join clubs you have no interest in just to meet people. Chances are you’ll meet someone who lives and breathes their hobby, such as gardening (hence the reason they’re in a club). If that particular hobby holds no interest for you, it’s a little deceptive to meet people in the club who assume that you too are interested in this topic. Plus if you start dating, you’ll probably get bored talking about the topic if it truly holds no interest.

While you’re flipping through your newspaper or reading your grocery store bulletin board to find these clubs, also be sure to keep an eye out for single’s events – fundraisers, dinners, dances, etc. Some of these may be general single’s events, open to anyone. Others may be geared towards a specific group, such as Jewish singles. Only go to those where you feel comfortable and where you belong.

If you’re more adventuresome you can meet people anywhere, whether at the grocery store, the laundromat, or just out walking on the street. Anyone you meet in this way is likely to be a bigger risk, as you have no idea about their personality until you go out on your date. However, plenty of people have gotten together through chance meetings, so if you’re brave enough you can certainly give it a try.
