Communication
The key of course in all of this is communication. Don’t keep things bottled up. When you do this, it almost always comes out sooner or later. It’s like putting a tight cap on a bottle of soda, and then shaking it – the pressure builds, and eventually that top will blow off. When it blows off, you release a torrent of past hurts that are irrelevant to the issue at hand. It’s better to discuss things before they get this far.
When it comes time for you to discuss any disagreements you may have, choose your language carefully. The worst thing you can do is put the other person on the defensive. Let the other person know you see and understand their viewpoint, and then let them know why you disagree.
